[Bachata]

Bachata is a dance that was born about 50 years ago to represent the Dominican Republic with meringue.

Its origins were not as elegant as Argentine tango and flamenco dance, but it was gradually recognized by the upper middle class and became able to dance in various dance scenes. Nowadays, it is a popular dance all over the world, and you can watch various videos on Instagram and YouTube.

Since it is a Latin dance born in the Spanish-speaking country of the Dominican Republic, an island country in the Caribbean Sea, you may think that it is a Spanish-speaking dance such as Latin America, but borders such as the United States, Spain, France, Italy, Japan, and South Korea Beyond words, it is widely enjoyed all over the world.

Originally, the music itself was played on an acoustic guitar, but in recent years, electric guitars have been used, so the impression is quite different from when it was born. There are many songs composed as Bachata, but Latin pop music such as Luis Fonsi's "Despacito", Camilla Cavejo's "Senorita", and Enrique Iglesias's "Súbeme la Radio" have come to be heard in Japan. I often dance at, so I can enjoy it very much.

"Despacito" is a song that was a worldwide hit because it was covered by Justin Bieber.

Most of the music themes are about the sadness of lost love. The melody is bright and cheerful, so there is some discomfort due to the gap with the lyrics, but it is a cultural difference, so it is best to think of it as a culture shock that you can enjoy in Japan.

I feel that it has something in common with Argentine tango, which is said to be a dance that expresses the bargaining between adult men and women.

Bachata may also be played in salsa bars, etc., and it may also teach you the basic steps and turns.
