Salsa trivia

[Salsa as music]

There are various theories about the origin of salsa as music ...

① 1930s Caribbean and Cuban music, developed from son and rumba

(2) After (1), Puerto Rican dance music with elements such as jazz, soul, and rock.

③ After ②, what was established in New York by around 1970

In other words, the clear theory is not clear.

That's because it's certain that Cuban music was directly influenced by Son.

It spread rapidly from New York to Latin American countries such as Colombia in the 1970s, and various ideas were brought into salsa music and developed. Even today, new musical ideas are constantly being incorporated.

It can be said that salsa is constantly evolving ♬

It's a little old work, but there is a scene where young Puerto Rican immigrants appear and dance in a movie with a cool dance scene called "West Side Story". I can imagine that the dance called salsa was formed in the relationship with these immigrants.

 * Puerto Rico immigrants sound like a different country, but since Puerto Rico is currently an autonomous territory of the United States, it may be part of the United States where Spanish is the official language.
